I have extremely dry skin on my feet and legs. Can this be one of the signs of diabetes?

The skin on my legs is so dry that I end up making myself bleed when I scratch them. I also have cracked heels on my feet and cannot feel the callused areas on my feet anymore.
I have also been told that I am borderline type 2 diabetic.

Have you simply tried talking cooler showers and using some sort of moisturizer or lotion, before you jumped to the diabetes thoughts?

Your doctor can prescribe a lotion that may help you. Diabetics do tend to get dry skin. Put some a lot of Vaseline on your feet, then some white socks at bed time. This helps my heels. There is also a good cream especially for cracked heals. You can get it at Walmart in the lotion section. I don’t remember the name of it. Ask someone that works in that department. It’s in jar. It’s supposed to be pretty good. I just use a good lotion on my body every day and it helps. It pays to buy a good name brand lotion. If you are a diabetic and have bad calluses, you should go to a podiatrist.

If you’re getting dry skin as a result of diabetes, it would be because you’re ********* more frequently (which is a side effect of diabetes) and you’re not replacing the fluids quickly enough. Meaning you’re getting a little dehydrated. Drink more water. Drink it throughout the day, not all at once, and if you don’t like water, take it like medicine. Dehydration doesn’t just dry your skin out, in diabetics it can actually cause your blood sugar level to go up.
And lotion always helps
) my daughter got horrible dry skin before she was diagnosed, and they told me to get her some Eucerin. But I warn you, all it is is Vaseline with some colors and stuff to make it less greasy. It works great, just not pleasant to use.

This is one of the things you see more commonly with diabetes than others. It is not a sign of diabetes in itself. Moisturizing creams like Allpressan or shea butter oil. are needed to keep the feet and legs from cracking.
